40-year anniversary: “I never planned to become a truck driver”
On 1 January 2026, Erik Lindved will celebrate his 40-year anniversary with Frode Laursen.
For Erik Lindved, becoming a truck driver was never part of the plan. He grew up in the countryside, and although he trained as a shop assistant, it was the big trucks that really caught his eye. Even as a boy, he was always ready when the milkman arrived early in the morning. If he was allowed to hop along, he did.
“I always looked forward to the big 12-metre truck delivering goods to the local shop. If I could sneak in and help unload, I would – probably to the driver’s slight annoyance,” Erik says.
After finishing his apprenticeship and spending some time as a soldier, Erik started driving trucks. In 1986, he joined Dagrofa, where he drove frozen goods – and later dry goods – for many years. A workplace he really enjoyed.
When Dagrofa decided to stop running its own trucks in Herning and Ringsted, Erik moved over to Frode Laursen in 2016. A decision he’s been very happy with.
“The transition to Frode Laursen was really smooth, and I felt very welcome.”
Even though it wasn’t in the cards for Erik to become a truck driver, his son Lasse has chosen the same path. Today, father and son are both drivers at Frode Laursen.
Time for family
Today, Erik works four days a week. That brings more balance to his calendar – and more time with his grandchildren in Ikast.
“It’s hard to say who benefits the most – the kids, the parents or us grandparents. It feels like we all win a little,” he says.
In his spare time, Erik also helps out at the local riding club, where his wife is actively involved. He lends a hand with practical tasks, which gives him a welcome break from life in the truck cab.
Even though Erik switched to a four-day workweek more than two years ago, early retirement isn’t on his radar just yet.
“I could have retired a year and a half ago, but it’s never really tempted me. I’ve still got plenty of drive and energy – as long as my health keeps up.”
