One in three transports runs on more sustainable fuels

In 2024, the transport and logistics company Frode Laursen powered 39% of its own transports with alternative, more sustainable fuels. This has been a key factor in the company already nearing its target of a 35% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030.
Since 2020, Frode Laursen has reduced its absolute CO₂ emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 37%, while its relative emissions – known as carbon intensity – have decreased by 32%.
“I’m extremely proud of that. Especially our reduction in carbon intensity, because it truly shows how much better we’ve become at transporting the same amount of goods in a more climate-friendly way,” says Frode Laursen’s CEO, Thomas Corneliussen.
In 2024 alone, Frode Laursen improved its efficiency by 14 % compared to the previous year, contributing to a total CO₂ reduction of 32% since 2020.
Transitional technologies driving progress
A key reason for this green progress is the company’s increasing use of sustainable fuels – a result of its strategic focus on practical solutions that work today, not tomorrow. The company’s approach has been to let transitional technologies such as biogas and ISSC-certified HVO biodiesel drive the green transition, while the technology and infrastructure around electric trucks continue to develop to handle more than short distances in and around densely populated areas.
This strategy has enabled Frode Laursen to offer customers concrete, attractive, and scalable transport solutions here and now. As a result, 39% of the company’s own transports now run on alternative fuels – a 13 percentage point increase from the year before.
“The fact that more than one in three of our transports runs on more sustainable fuels is an achievement that, to my knowledge, no one else in our industry comes close to matching,” says Thomas Corneliussen, highlighting the importance of customer collaboration:
“We work with customers who share our ambition to strengthen sustainability in logistics, and we’re naturally proud to deliver such tangible results that prove our joint efforts are making a real difference.”
Raising the bar
These strong results don’t mean Frode Laursen is slowing down. On the contrary, the company has raised the bar even higher with new and ambitious goals for 2025.
“We need to maintain momentum. We’ve already achieved a lot by using more sustainable fuels, and new legislation is giving us even more opportunities to accelerate the transition,” says Corneliussen.
In 2024, Frode Laursen made significant investments in new equipment, including EMS2 road trains and the so-called 14.9-meter trailers – both solutions that enable more pallets to be transported per truck.
“This leads to a noticeable reduction in CO₂ emissions per pallet, and we expect these investments to have a clear and positive impact on our future climate reporting,” Corneliussen explains.
He also emphasizes that electric trucks will, in the long term, play a much larger role in the green transition. The technology continues to mature, and the expansion of infrastructure will soon enable electric trucks to handle longer distances and cross-border transport.
“We’re preparing for that by continuously investing in a fleet of electric trucks, which we expect to grow from 8 vehicles to 15 within the next 12 to 24 months. Until then, we’re pleased to deliver concrete results for our customers through transitional technologies like HVO and biogas.”
